Because other sources are all or nothing. Instead of providing a non-judgmental resource for people who can't or will not get help they tell people to get help. As though they haven't thought of that before.
A "harm-reduction" of sorts for self harmers. No-judgments but I do want to provide people with education about how to at least be safe about harming themselves. No talk of getting help, just a non-biased source of education about why people self harm and how to keep yourself safe instead of just telling people "don't cut" or "get help" as if it were that easy. We also need to let people make their own decisions while giving them the proper tools and information to be safe. Especially if someone is an adult, they can make their own decisions, and it is their body. Instead of a D.A.R.E like stance on self harm("just say no!!!"), let us provide people with tools to use such as how to bandage properly so their cut does not get infected, or advice to use so you don't cut as deeply as you may have if you did not have this information.

Get the same feeling as when you cut yourself. If you can do these instead, please try.

How to bandage properly
"If you want to minimise the scars, first of all, pick a good spot on your body, like your upper thigh. The skin there is delicate but it's hardly ever exposed in public. Keeping scars away from sunlight will help them heal faster and be fainter. Leave your arms alone.
You also need to take care of them. Making yourself feel the most pain is not a good attitude to have when you're cutting, as much as you want to think that's why you do it. You don't deserve pain. I'll say it again: You don't deserve pain. Instead, if you want to cut, do it with a different mentality. Look at it as tool; expressing your feelings outwardly let's you take care of them. Disinfect the patch of skin with a bit of rubbing alcohol (not vodka or any other liquor). Then using a clean, sharp (that is, new) razor blade, make a superficial cut. And I mean superficial. Let it be for a couple of minutes and just let yourself feel it. Then, taking a cotton ball soaked in rubbing alcohol, wipe the wound clean. The alcohol will burn, which is probably what you want. As soon as the bleeding stops, put a band-aid or a gauze with some cloth tape over it. Taking care of the wound (taking care of yourself) is what is going to help you, instead of maximising the pain. Also, don't cut in the same spot twice or pick at the scabs. That will only make the scars worse. It's also better to make several shallow cuts than one deep one." - How can I smartly cut myself? @ Quora

Keep it superficial
Scares are your feelings your felt at one time. They are not a measure of how good or bad you are.

- Panic List for Distress Tolerance @ DBT self help - "These suggestions for dealing with panic are not a replacement for the Distress Tolerance skills. They are about being effective in the moment - which means doing what it takes to be safe. Believe it or not, even the ones that sound stupid usually help a little, and the best skill of all is to wait 15 min, and then ask yourself if you can wait 15 more, and so on. If 15 min is a long time for you, try 5. .....The longer you wait, the more likely the urgent need will dissipate. "
